I don’t know about you but I’ve been quite interested in reading about tiger woods fall from grace. I think it must be something about the British the Raison d’ĂȘtre that we love to build someone up and take great pride if they fuck it up, because then we can watch them fall down. I don’t think the same applies in the usa they love the rag to riches story – its the american dream. Its a weird dream as america has;
- US healthcare system is not in the top five countries with high quality care to its citizens
- US are the only developed country that does not have paid childcare following birth
- Nearly 47 million of us (20 percent of the population) have no health insurance in 2008; 25 million of us are underinsured
- America now have 664,000 people who are homeless and about 1.6 million people used some type of shelter or housing program at least once during the year
- The infant mortality rate in the United States remains higher than that other developed countries
- America have more per capita debt that any other developed country
- Of the 30 wealthiest nations, America has the highest proportion of children living in poverty
Opps I’ve gone off the plot, here in the UK we love nothing more than watching them squirm and try to talk their way out of their situation. It brings them down to our level, it makes them human.
We all know more than ever that the squeaky clean image of tiger put him up there as a role model for the youth of today. Tiger woods was black role model, something of a rarity in this day and age so that makes him even more a figure to look up to, the world looked up to him as being on another level, much higher than us. They told us he did not drink, he never smoked, he did not do drugs, he never swore, he lost with great sportsmanship, he rose above the normal vices like a modern day superhero.
Yet with all his money, with all the fame and wealth he is still not happy. We were led to think that he had the perfect marrage, the perfect family, the perfect life. With all the fame and adulation came the sponsorship deals, the endorsement and ultimately the money. According to forbes magazine “Tiger Woods has become the first sportsman to earn more than a billion dollars“. We was at the peak of his professional career…. and then….
What is your point I hear you say. My point is this, I don’t know if all the stories are true about his alleged affairs and extra marrital relationships, but if they are true, why not just own up to them. I don’t mean in great detail, I don’t care who he was fucking. Rather the first action of the woods camp was to cover it all up.
Nothing to see here, move along. As you were. Keep calm and carry on. Fuck that shit. Do you think we are, idiots? You were caught with your pants down, now fess up and move on. Everyone with half a brain cell knew they were up to something.
Should this damage his career, no. Should this damage his earning potential, perhaps yes, perhaps no. He might loose some sponsorship deals, he might gain others. Should he live with the shame – yes. He should take the shame, after all he is only human like the rest of us, he shits, he wipes his ass, he flushes toilets.
I think the key thing here is, and we brits understand this, live by the media – die by the media.
